Christmas

The magic of Christmas is back and I've found a great site that can help us same time preparing our activities. It has lots of different worksheets including Christmas flashcards, games and vocabulary. www.english-4kids.com is really worth seeing!

Here comes Halloween!
Halloween should be as scary as possible. We always choose witches and spiders to decorate our classrooms, so this time we decided to make different crafts with kids. As usual I made a search on Google and I found these great scary mummies. They are really easy to do: we just need black balloons, some tissue to roll around the balloons and two little eyes!
And they sure are scary...! Hope you like it!

This week's lesson was about Greetings again, but this time the students had to write in English.

I created two worksheets with squares where they have to glue the right letters to form the words they want to. The worksheets have the instructions in Portuguese so they can understand the goal of the task: translate and learn how to write the different greetings.

We started the new school year with revision work, because holidays are good but everyone forgets everything!!!

As most of my pupils were with me last year, I needed new ideas to revise Greetings and Personal data.
I looked for it on the web and once again I was happy to see that English Teachers like to share and help other teachers with their work. Thank you so much.

So the first great idea came from a great blog Frenchfrog's Little English Pond. There I took the idea of making a mini-book, because there is a project and even a template to download for free.

However, this project was a bit complicated for my pupils so I need to make it as simple as possible. So there I went again looking for a way to make this project work for me....

So on EslPrintables I found this great contribution by Cottageloaf Kat which had pictures that could be adapted to my mini-book.

First we chose a character; On the front page we glued a Greeting ; then we asked and answered about our names and how we were; we said it was a pleasure to meet the other character; and finally we said Goodbye!!!

The kids loved it and so did I!

Once again I would like to thank all the teacher who share their work. Thank you sooooo much!!

see more pictures about it

Try these exercises on-line. A nice way to study German!

Students can learn English while playing some funny games. On our first lesson of the school year, we found this useful site and had lots of fun! Check it out!

For those who are teaching English to adults and feel that all the worksheets and audio resourses are too childish, here's an advice:
I've found out that the best book to use in adults classes is
New Headway-Beginner
The written exercises are very good and the CDs have great listening exercises. The contents are related to our daily life and explore all the vocabulary we REALLY use when we speak English, with friends or at work.
You have different levels, CDs, students book, workbook and teacher's files with answer keys and activities. Honestly, I'm loving it!
There are different ways of getting it. You can do a free download of the students' book, CD1, CD2, Workbook, and Teacher's files.
But don't forget we should buy the real book and respect the author's rights...
Hope you like it!

Teaching adults is preparing them to real conversations and not just teaching some words or all the grammar rules without thinking about how practical those contents are... So I realized that videos are a really good way of practising the most important contents. I found a great collection of videos at YouTube, which are great to use during classes. Check this one out

You can just show it or create listening exercises. I've used them and the results were really great. And the best news is that there is an amazing number of videos divided by themes!

Hope you like it!

I've made a search on the web and I found some great ideas for Easter crafts.

This Easter bunny is really easy to do and can be use to decorate our classrooms!

Good Eggs! These are really funny and cute
eggs...

And what about this funny frame? Easy to do and kids will have a lot of fun and you turn them into bunnies!

Happy Easter Everyone!

The new unit was School, so we have learnt the school objects and practised how to write them and how to say them. Most of the students already new these words so it wasn't too hard. Then we have tried a different activity.... I've printed some images of different objects from google, laid them on the table and the students had to say their names in English.

And the best part of our lesson was using a school bag (created with a simple box of cereals). They had to go to school but their bag was empty so .... they asked their partners all the stuff they needed!

For example: I need one pencil case, two pens, one pencil, one pencil sharpener, one ruler and one rubber.

This gave them the opportunity to choose what they wanted, how many objects they would need, and we can also adapt the activity and make them revise the colours. This class was a success and it was really easy to plan: a simple box of cereals can make wonders in English classes! Hope you like it!

This time our project was really big. We've decided to build a city where everyone speaks in English! I've gathered some boxes ( from cookies, perfums, pills...), and prepared them so the students could draw what I would ask them to.They had to draw: a school, a supermarket, a hotel, a boutique, a house and also build a small park.Every time we start a new unit, our little car drives around the city and stops in a particular place, so we need to learn what's in there!

Our first stop was the school, so we've learnt the school objects! The kids loved it, and I hope you like it too!

I've found this great site, useful for foreign languages learners and teachers. You can click the image, read the word and listen it. It is also available in several languages!
Check it out!

This is a great magazine created by Porto Editora! Its contents are always related to the Festivities, the themes thaught in Portuguese schools and it also has a variety of ideas and printable materials that we can use on our every day classes. And, something also important, it isn't too expensive. Take a look and you won't regret it!

This is a Powerpoint presentation about the House vocabulary in German language. It can be adapted to English if you want to.

Hope you like it! Give me your opinion, I would really like to know what you think. ;)

Here is a great site with free clipart to use on your worksheets, activities... whatever! It has good pictures and it is divided by themes. It has great pics for Valentine's day too.

Hope you like it!

I am teaching my youngest students the Human Face vocabulary, so I've built a face to show them during classes. For now we are only using the brown hair, a pair of eyes, ears, eyebrows and a nose; but I have built hair and eyes in different colours, as well as ears, noses and mouths of different sizes. This gives me the chance to work the simple vocabulary with the younger students and the vocabulary related to Physical description with the older ones. I've also built different mouths so we can practice the Feelings vocabulary (happy, sad...).
Hope you like this idea! ;)
