Hi everyone! After some busy months, here I am, back in business!

To start the new school year, nothing better than dancing and singing to celebrate the new contents, the new learning experience!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I9gz-5_h60

Thanks to my dear friend Sandra, I found this great site and now I'm fond of it! There are great songs which can help us to create the perfect environment to learn in a funny way! Hope you like it!

This week's lesson was about Greetings again, but this time the students had to write in English.

I created two worksheets with squares where they have to glue the right letters to form the words they want to. The worksheets have the instructions in Portuguese so they can understand the goal of the task: translate and learn how to write the different greetings.

We started the new school year with revision work, because holidays are good but everyone forgets everything!!!

As most of my pupils were with me last year, I needed new ideas to revise Greetings and Personal data.
I looked for it on the web and once again I was happy to see that English Teachers like to share and help other teachers with their work. Thank you so much.

So the first great idea came from a great blog Frenchfrog's Little English Pond. There I took the idea of making a mini-book, because there is a project and even a template to download for free.

However, this project was a bit complicated for my pupils so I need to make it as simple as possible. So there I went again looking for a way to make this project work for me....

So on EslPrintables I found this great contribution by Cottageloaf Kat which had pictures that could be adapted to my mini-book.

First we chose a character; On the front page we glued a Greeting ; then we asked and answered about our names and how we were; we said it was a pleasure to meet the other character; and finally we said Goodbye!!!

The kids loved it and so did I!

Once again I would like to thank all the teacher who share their work. Thank you sooooo much!!

Students can learn English while playing some funny games. On our first lesson of the school year, we found this useful site and had lots of fun! Check it out!

The new unit was School, so we have learnt the school objects and practised how to write them and how to say them. Most of the students already new these words so it wasn't too hard. Then we have tried a different activity.... I've printed some images of different objects from google, laid them on the table and the students had to say their names in English.

And the best part of our lesson was using a school bag (created with a simple box of cereals). They had to go to school but their bag was empty so .... they asked their partners all the stuff they needed!

For example: I need one pencil case, two pens, one pencil, one pencil sharpener, one ruler and one rubber.

This gave them the opportunity to choose what they wanted, how many objects they would need, and we can also adapt the activity and make them revise the colours. This class was a success and it was really easy to plan: a simple box of cereals can make wonders in English classes! Hope you like it!

This time our project was really big. We've decided to build a city where everyone speaks in English! I've gathered some boxes ( from cookies, perfums, pills...), and prepared them so the students could draw what I would ask them to.They had to draw: a school, a supermarket, a hotel, a boutique, a house and also build a small park.Every time we start a new unit, our little car drives around the city and stops in a particular place, so we need to learn what's in there!

Our first stop was the school, so we've learnt the school objects! The kids loved it, and I hope you like it too!

This is a great magazine created by Porto Editora! Its contents are always related to the Festivities, the themes thaught in Portuguese schools and it also has a variety of ideas and printable materials that we can use on our every day classes. And, something also important, it isn't too expensive. Take a look and you won't regret it!

Once again I have followed the fabulous advices from Thunder and created some magnets with hearts. My students loved it and so did their parents! I have just changed the materials and used card board in order to reuse unwanted materials. There were hearts in different colours and magnets in two different styles, but we didn't exactly follow the original idea...
I have just said: "Use your imagination, kids!"

After learning the vocabulary related to the human face, we decided we wanted to be monsters....

So we had different faces, noses, eyes,
hair, ears and mouths, all in different colours
and numbers so we could practice all we have learnt.

Each student was a monster and had
to follow the teacher's orders to build a strange face.

Here are some examples:

You have a red face, three blue eyes, one blue nose, a blue mouth and two pink ears. You have no hair...!

You have a brown face, blond hair (yellow- so they can understand), two brown eyes, two pink ears and a big mouth with two teeth!

The final result was great! The students had lots of fun and wanted to show everybody what they have just done! I had a lot of fun too, which is also important!
Hope you like it!

I am teaching my youngest students the Human Face vocabulary, so I've built a face to show them during classes. For now we are only using the brown hair, a pair of eyes, ears, eyebrows and a nose; but I have built hair and eyes in different colours, as well as ears, noses and mouths of different sizes. This gives me the chance to work the simple vocabulary with the younger students and the vocabulary related to Physical description with the older ones. I've also built different mouths so we can practice the Feelings vocabulary (happy, sad...).
Hope you like this idea! ;)

One day I was surfing the net when I found http://thunder-palavrassoltas.blogspot.com/. Thunder is an English teacher who has great ideas to teach young students. One of the ideas that I liked most was the Spring Box which contains all the words related to that season.

I've decided to try it, but I'm using it for the four seasons. The goal is to fill the boxes with the words we will be learning until the end of the school year.

It's really easy to do! You just need a shoe box and students can decorate it as they wish!

I've put the same tree on the four boxes and students glued the different elements of each season of the year.
The boxes will be in our classroom and will be filled with words that can be related to each season like the months of the year, clothes...
My students loved this activity so I just have to say...thank you so much Thunder!!!

To work the contents of the last class I've put some cards with the days of the week in a wrong order so students could go to the board and put them right. This cards were taken from the Teacher's Magazine, a wonderful magazine with a lot of ideas and resources.
After that I wanted to see if students could write the words correctly so I brought some magnet letters. These are really easy to find in toy shops and students love the activity, because they don't have to write on paper as they usually do.
I have also built some wheels with the days of the week and the weather conditions that students will have to update in the beginning of each class. The main goal of this activity is to make students revise all contents without noticing it. We can use as many wheels as we want to like: seasons, months... we just need to adapt them to the contents we have taught.
Hope you like it!

One upon a time there was a cowboy, Toy Cowboy. He was riding his horse through the wild west, when he saw a little indian boy. He tried to talk with the little boy. but he didn't understand anything he said. The little boy didn't know how to speak English... Toy Cowboy decided to teach him some words and what a coincidence!!! A train with the days of the week was just passing by....

As the days appeared Toy sang a little Cowboy Song

Today is Monday all they long, doo-da

Today is Monday all they long, all-the-doo-da-day

( Rythm of Captain Ladies Song)

And he sang this song for all the days of the week

I got this train on http://www.eslprintables.com/, and the song from a search on google. This wasn´t my original idea, I 've just mixed two advices and built this story.
Hope you like it!

This week I've started another topic on my Primary English classes. As usual, I've gathered some ideas on different sites and different blogs and created my lesson plan.

Days of the week

Some teachers show a calendar so students can learn the month and the different days of the week. I thought it was a great idea but decided to improve it.

I built a very resistant calendar, prepared to last a lifetime.

This calendar has no time reference, because students will build it on their own every month.

We can write whatever we want in each square. Now I'm using it to teach the days of the week, but also to revise the weather conditions. Students will have to write the day and they will also have to draw and write the weather conditions of that day.
Besides that, I think it is also a good idea to write down the students' birthdays. They won't be forgotten and students will feel that that day is important for their classmates and teachers.

It's very easy to create one of these calendars. I've used cardboard and some drawings. You can decorate it as you wish, and also ask your students to help.
The white cardboard needs to have at least 31 squares, so it can fit every month.
And the most important thing, use self-adhesive paper to cover the whole calendar. You can write on it and the cardboard will almost be water-proof!!!
I usually write on it with whiteboard markers because it can be easily cleaned after using.
I will be using this activity until the end of the school year because these are important contents that shouldn't be forgotten!
See you!

It's cloudy, rainy and windy. There is a boy near the school. There are three grey cats and two brown dogs.

Neste acaso seria:

It's sunny and hot. There are two girls on the beach. There is a blue dolphin and four yellow and black bees.

Two brown dogs. Five yellow birds. Two pink pigs.

Mote da aula: Old McDonald's Farm

GREETINGS/ FAREWELLS/ INTRODUDING OURSELVES
